According to Apostle Paul
1. Romans 3:10 As it is written, there is none righteous, no, not one.
2. Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.
3. Romans 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
4. Romans 5:12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned.
5. Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
6. Romans 10:9-11 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
7. Romans 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
Most of you reading this article will be familiar with this subject title, “The Romans Road to Salvation“. I have no knowledge of who was the first to present this as an outline or guide to evangelism. I do know that Apostle Paul was said to be the Apostle to the Gentiles and these scriptures were taken from letters he penned, so I give him the credit for the effort but Jesus is the source of our salvation for sure. I believe it is a good outline to follow when evangelizing for sure. It has been around a long time and has proven to be effective.
As you step through the recommended sequence you realize that it really is a complex subject. It helps to organize our approach and to anticipate resistance. Depending on the individual you’re dealing with, you may need to spend more time on one aspect than another. Some people understand the depravity of all mankind so you don’t have to convince them they need salvation. If convinced I am sick, I don’t need much encouragement to seek a physician.
However, if I think I’m basically a good person, then why should I change?
We must be convinced of sin before we will seek a remedy! For this reason you will note that the first 5 scriptures of this outline are devoted to the general subject of mans depravity. Paul also explains the knowledge of sin came with the introduction of the law;
Rom 7:9 For I was alive without the law once: but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died.
This reveals the real challenge in our society today. The secular agenda has successfully removed the 10 commandments from our public places and has removed the Bible from our schools. They have replaced these moral norms (the Law) so that we now have a society that accepts dysfunctional behavior and has no consciousness of sin. There is no understanding of absolutes so each is free to determine what is good or evil of themselves. We live in a frightful world where evil abounds! We find ourselves subject to LAWLESSNESS!
So, what we must recognize is people will often have to hit rock bottom before they will entertain the subject of salvation. However, when they find themselves in the throes of despair, then they might begin seeking help. Unfortunately, we may have to wait for these conditions to manifest before we are allowed to present the remedy. It is painful for them and us but just the nature of the beast. This then reveals the necessity of knowing the word of God. We can not hope to lead anyone out of the throes of despair by any other means than acknowledging the remedy as provided by, the author and finisher of our faith, Jesus.
Heb 12:2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
I am inserting links to other articles that speak to the need for assistance navigating these dangerous waters. The question that always emerges in these conversations is; who is the moral authority? Who determines what is Good vs Evil or righteous vs unrighteous? Only Yahweh (Jehovah) gets to make that call!
This is our calling;
Mar 16:15-16 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
